“PROCEED IN RETROSPECT”

The beginning of a new year is a time when all people look ahead, with excitement and anticipation, to renewal and possibility that the New Year brings. This is the time of new beginnings, when we make resolutions and set goals for the coming year.

For some, the New Year also brings reflection of years gone by, both good and bad. This can be important in achieving new beginnings; much can be learned from the past. Reflection can help recognize past mistakes, or to simply how to carry out old goals differently, than had previously been done. Some may argue that the past cannot be undone and is no longer of any use to anyone. However, looking back serves as a basis of comparison for growth and change over the years and serves as a guide, so that previous mistakes might not be relived and we might gain strength in the future from past success.

Reflection is a natural and almost necessary thing at this time of year. It is up to each individual-what to do with the knowledge gained in doing this. Remember, sometimes one must look back in order to move forward.
